Our vision

Our vision is simple.  We want the best for local people – the best health, the best health care, a health service fit for the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The best health:  we want to improve life expectancy for local people, enable them to live independently for as long as possible and reduce significantly the health care inequalities that some of our communities face

The best health care:  we want people to have access to the highest standards of care in the way we would want for our friends and families;

A health service fit for the East Riding of Yorkshire:  we want a health service which suits the dispersed, largely rural nature of our communities, with services which make full use of new technology and clinical advances to provide more accessible, local services.

Our guiding principles

Our Health Strategy covers all health services from birth to death.  It is guided by six principles:

Encouraging healthier lifestyles.
Services focused on the individual and his or her carer.
Moving services closer to patients.
Changes led by local health professionals such as doctors, nurses and therapists.
Working with other organisations.
Delivering measurable improvements.

Health Strategy 2009

The Health Strategy gives details of our healthcare vision for the future and sets out a ‘cradle to grave’ strategy under ten priority areas showing how we plan to provide healthcare from birth through to end of life.  This is based on local health needs, our experience of providing healthcare in East Riding of Yorkshire, and feedback from patients and the public.

Our ten priority areas are:
Life expectancy
Health inequalities
Staying healthy
Maternity and the newborn
Children’s services
Long term conditions
Planned care
Urgent care
Mental health
End of life care
