The East Riding of Yorkshire covers a wide geographical area which includes both rural/coastal and urban communities. Both affluent and deprived communities live within its borders (often side by side), each with its own needs for Public Health interventions and support from the local Public Health Directorate and its partners.
In 2005, the profiles of the local population were compiled and published (click here for the East Yorkshire PCT report and click here for the Yorkshire Wolds and Coast PCT report) and these informed the Public Health Strategy for East Riding of Yorkshire (click here for a copy of the Strategy). The Strategy addresses both the topic-related priority areas across the whole of East Riding (see under PUBLIC HEALTH PRIORITIES) and locality-specific priority areas in particular geographical areas of East Riding (this section). These geographical areas are:
-
-
Bridlington and Driffield
-
Goole, Howden and West Wolds
-
In addition to targeting priority areas, the Public Health Directorate also focuses on the needs of particular groups which strongly experience health inequalities and reside within its borders. Such groups have, so far, included:
- Gypsies and Travellers
- Children and Adults with a Learning Disability
- Migrant workers
- Prisoners.
